Jernaldergården Janheim

At Tranås, on the western side of Jøa, people have lived for at least 2,000 years. Here you'll find stone cairns and burial mounds from the Iron Age—predating the Viking Age. Remains of a longhouse over 50 meters in length have been discovered, possibly once home to as many as 50 people.

Iron Age farm

Building an Iron Age farm took owner Jan Tranås 20 years of planning, 5 years of construction, and 5,000 hours of labor. His dream has been to recreate the story of who the people of Namdalen are, and how their ancestors once lived.

A living story

If you want to experience what it was like to live in an Iron Age longhouse—cook over an open fire, swim in the sea, forage for wild herbs in a lush coastal landscape—and enjoy a truly unique overnight stay and base for exploring the rest of Jøa, you can rent the longhouse Janheim.

The house is also well-suited for larger gatherings, with space for up to 80 guests.
